DOD Board Meeting Minutes
Wetlands Brewpub and Sports Grill, 922 Garfield St Eugene
March 9, 2026
Commenced 6:25 pm
1. Public Forum: Closed meeting this date
2. Position reports:
A. Chair (Sean Fitzpatrick): Ben and I met with Eugene Parks and Open Spaces with Jack Hill and Matt M. on how we can align priorities on maintaining trails, tool storage, etc. Unsure if we'll be allowed to use power tools, and how involved does Eugene Parks and Open Spaces (Joe) want DOD to be. I talked about ACM with Chantal - came up with a plan for next year on timing, spreading the workload, etc. Big priority - Hardesty. We need to push workdays out there - logging, brushing, drain cleaning. Let's propose April 4th - Hardesty. We also settled on Lawlerpalooza weekend on June 6th/7th. I think we should move forward with a quartermaster position, and a volunteer coordinator to help out with the board. James W. stepped up for help with the quartermaster position.
B. Vice Chair (Austin Larson): We got the email from the BLM on the 5 year plan. They named the stream buffers, might log more on the trails in the next 10 years. I haven't read it completely yet. We need another workday at Whypass. Let's go with March 21st. Tuesday night rides are going well. James W: Let's work on the top part of Hit Parade so the climb trail doesn't cross the first jump.
C. Treasurer (Chantal Angot): We're making more money than we're spending. Our waiver for ACM was only a waiver for trail work. $19.99/month for SmartWaiver. SmartWaiver has waivers for kids too. I propose we pay a service to have our members sign a liability digital waiver. I can research this more. BLM is looking for info on where we want to put trails. The 10 year plan shows places where we can't put trails based on environmental/wildlife restrictions. I need to get back to BLM on this - but not sure if there's grant money or not. I'm going to email BLM back to get clarification on our trailbuilding budget.
D. Secretary (Jeff Green): Jeff to type up a document on questions we need to ask BLM on trail design - skills park features, other considerations.
E. Trail Work (Vacant):
F. PR/Marketing (Ben Hansen): Ode to Joy at Whypass needs work to make it safer. Drains need cleared in some areas like Egress and Boundary. I discovered about 130 email subscribers were bots so I scrubbed them. I updated the calendar to separate trail work and trail ride events. Thurston build was good - had 10 people. We've had people ask about beginner rides - I think there's a missing market for that. Jack was talking about doing trail work days at Thurston - twice a month. Sean: I told Jack we'd support one per month. I'll put the Spence Mtn destination ride on the calendar and put it in the newsletter. Ben to put the DOD merch store on the website.
G. Rides/Events (Brian Peais): Happy Ride at North Shore at 9am on Saturday. Hardesty work day on April 4th. April 24-26 is Barbie Camp. Spence Mtn is May 23rd weekend. June we have Lawlerpalooza June 6th/7th. MBO is at the end of June. Big Creek could be a consideration for July, as well as a shuttled Happy Ride at Lawler.
Concluded at 7:40 pm
