DOD Board Meeting Minutes
Wetlands Brewpub and Sports Grill, 922 Garfield St, Eugene
July 14, 2025
Commenced 6:32 pm

1. Public Forum

Micah S: I'd love to help out at Ridgeline zone. Also working on appropriate and accessible race venues in our area. I've been working with Oak Hill as a cyclecross location. They allowed Twilight Operations to do a 2-day cyclecross event in 2023. It had a great turnout—200+ racers. There's already about 2½ miles of trail out there. With the clearing project, there's an opportunity to build exclusive mountain bike trails. Could be used for NICA racing—we currently don't have a place for the NICA teams to race in the Willamette Valley right now.

Amy, Director of Operations with Oak Hill School: Oak Hill has had a lot of organizational changes. We're interested in working with DOD region. Need to look at how access would look, and organizing a trail plan.

Max M: I live in S. Eugene a lot. I'm interested in the Ridgeline, Arlie, and/or Hardesty/Lawler/Eagle's Rest zone.

Cody: I'm interested in the Thurston Hills zone.

Jeff G: I'm also interested in Thurston Hills.

Scott Briggs: I'm interested in assisting in the Lawler/Hardesty zone.

Adam Steffen: OMBC hasn't met in the last two months. Arlie is closed to recreation due to ongoing trail work. There's been some poaching and new trail tread damage by riders on e-motorcycles.

2. Position Reports

A. Chair (Sean Fitzpatrick):
DOD will be at the Lane County Fair – working on getting trail maps to hand out, and Mike is working on the sandwich board. Willie plans on being there every day. Helped out at Alsea shuttle day for medical. MBO happened – helped out as GIT. Communicating needs on Hwy 58 area with Kevin Rowell. Setting up “zone leaders” concept for trail work needs and having more people to help coordinate trail needs. They won't start out as voting positions but that could change. Ariel (sp?) with Eugene Parks Foundation and I sat down and talked about mountain bike recreation in Eugene. He said they do one or two big fundraisers a year and otherwise donations come to them.
No meeting in August.

B. Vice Chair (Austin Larson):
Umpqua and McKenzie River trail stewards are going well. I'm proposing Greenwaters park—enduro and XC—Larison Enduro X—fundraisers shuttle Friday, morning shuttles on Sunday. Possibly 2027. Perhaps have Mudslinger organize it.

C. Treasurer (Chantal Angot):
Currently over $26k in bank. YTD we're up about $7k. We made over $800 in tips at MBO.

D. Secretary (Jeff Green):
Minutes sent out—no changes recommended. Worked with Mike Sheppard regarding new sandwich board.

E. Trail Work (Mike Sheppard):
There's too much work for one person—zone system is going to be started. Also need to change the way we record trail work hours. Board approved buying a couple new power tools—I haven't purchased them yet because we don't quite need them right now. Our current BLM contact is supportive and willing to help us with the process.

F. PR/Marketing (Ben Hansen):
I met with Colin on website—Chat GPT was unsuccessful. Trailwork.org—four areas and we'll add North Shore—database for maintaining the trail work zones. Colin is going to work on the website and integrate the database into the website and be able to pull up data and even see a leaderboard. I'm building a Moon Mtn HOA trail—mapped it out and brushing it. We also do a weekly ride at Thurston—should we also do a weekly ride at WP? Or we could start a night ride at WP or something. I posted the trail zone openings through various media. I did trail work myself as well—worked on Cloverpatch extension last weekend. I considered also putting in a blurb about the history of various trails.

G. Rides/Events (Brian Peas):
MBO was great exposure. Kitworks said they'd give DOD 10% of their sales. Shawn to follow up on that donation promise. Taco Tuesdays going great. Lane County Fair is coming up—getting set up for that. Mike to set up the booth Monday or Tuesday. I'll be point person for the LCF event, but Mike should have the paperwork and the stuff. Willie: I have a mountain bike wheel on the stand to draw people in. August 16th is proposed for a kid's ride at WP.
