DOD Board Meeting Minutes
Wetlands Brewpub and Sports Grill, 922 Garfield St Eugene
April 13, 2026
Commenced 6:05 pm
1. Public Forum: Shawn L, Lori S present.
Zach King: I'd like to spearhead a plan to put together a 5 year plan for Carpenter Bypass. I'd like to do a feasibility study and get funded a full climb trail for the back side of Thurston. Washburn St. Park and the Cape Mtn trail areas are where I'd like to start a conversation about putting more trails in Florence.
Jack Hill: We got a grant for the skills area and adaptive area at Thurston Hills. We have three mtb trails inside that loop - not sure when it's going out to bid. I'd like to put a blue trail from the top at Thurston Hills and a short trail off Yew Haw. I'm working on this plan and invite anyone to provide input. The Thurston trail work party was successful, lots of new people. Also, please help promote the Washington-Jefferson pump track by submitting letters of support and get others to submit letters as well.
Joe (CoE Parks and Open Space): I handle volunteerism on the Ridgeline Trail System. We're still having issues with people walking and biking the new trails at Suzanne Arlie Park. I'm working to determine if we get an MOU or other type of adoption agreement with DOD for maintenance. We're looking at a grand opening for this fall. A few trails aren't yet funded. Our goal is to have SA Park rideable year-round. I think there will be a wide variety of trail types and skill levels.
Dusty McCourt: My job has been to get people to give money for Eugene Parks and Open Spaces for Suzanne Arlie. Right now we have a $100k match grant. We're $60k short of our goal. April 15th is our deadline for the $60k. I'd like DOD to consider a donation to help finish up this project. Also I propose more ACM events in the year and hold them at closer locations like Thurston Hills and SA Park in order to draw in more people and more funds.
Nina: Starting a women's ride, beginner friendly, no drop.
Max: Sat May 16th trail work for Pipe Dream. Need a couple people on weed whackers and some berm work.
Dennis SY: $130 is what I'd charge for up to 8 people for DOD's new riders. I have a permit to teach on BLM land and at most of the trails like Willamette National Forest. Weeknights are better than weekends.
2. Position reports:
A. Chair (Sean Fitzpatrick): I did the WP trail work day - tuned up Ode to Joy we had about 20 people. Two weeks ago suveyed Lawler - June 6th/7th is Lawlerpalooza. Working Sat shuttling Sunday, with camping. Two weekends ago was Hardesty work day. We were able to get upper Goodman, Eula, and Hardesty done. Got Barbie Camp toilets scheduled to be delivered. Next Tuesday I'm going with Kevin to look at Eagle's Rest, Sawtooth, Lost Creek, and Goodman. Paul Timm may use his slide system to get some gravel added. Our insurance comes due at the end of this month.
B. Vice Chair (Austin Larson): Helping schlep the DOD trailer for work events. Nothing new to report.
C. Treasurer (Chantal Angot): As of the March 31st, our account is over $32k, we're bringing in more than we're spending. Tax filings are done. She's working on doing drinks and stuff for Barbie Camp. Ninkasi and Incline Cider is giving us beverages. Ben - we should do a shout-out to those donors.
D. Secretary (Jeff Green): Gave bylaws to Chantal. Minutes submitted.
E. Trail Work (Vacant):
F. PR/Marketing (Ben Hansen): I've been doing newsletters. I've been doing a Moon Mountain Monday ride. We had 8 people last time, did Baby Steps, Coryell Ridge, etc. We're up to 574 volunteer hours this year so far, which is much more than last year at this time.
G. Rides/Events (Brian Peais): Barbie camp April 24-26, Spence Mtn for end of May. Let's do a Happy Ride on May 9th for Alsea at 10am. Fall Barbie is Oct 24/25.
