Bunchgrass
Trail Project, 2005
It was an epic weekend of trailwork. Scott Taylor and Bob Obermeyer
amongst others have been working to rebuild and reclaim some wonderful
high country trails that have been abandoned for some 20 years.
Bunchgrass has been receiving attention for the last few, but there
is an extensive trail network in the area that has not been touched
in many years. Scott, Anthony, Matt, Steve, Chris, and myself had
seen some, and heard more, so we were ready to find out what this
area was all about. Day 1 had us on an offshoot of Bunchgrass called
the High Divide. It is a rocking, swoopy, all sorts of terrain downhill
that runs through rock gardens and forests thick with Huckleberry.
We cut, benched, routed, put in a log ride, then to top it off shuttled
it five times to make sure the line was packed in:) Day 2 we put
ourselves in the center of Buchgrass itself. After a grueling 1.5
hour hike in, we benched about 100 yards of trail that was essentially
non-existent to begin with. A great weekend, excellent camping and
friends, plus about 80 hours of trail work. There will be at least
2 work weekends in 2006. Seeya there!
