October 25th—27th, Sisters, Oregon

On a sunny October weekend near Camp Sherman members and friends of the Disciples of Dirt hailing from all over Oregon and Washington came together for the 19th annual Fall Barbie Camp. Camped beside Lake Creek in the wide open woods of Central Oregon, the 60 or so attendees spent a fun weekend eating, drinking and riding bikes. Saturday’s group ride on the Metolius Windigo (Trail 99) afforded the mountain bikers their first glimpse of an area newly charred by last year’s Pole Creek fire. What had once been a thriving Ponderosa forest has become an open landscape of black and silvery tree snags revealing giant views of the snow-capped Three Sisters.
The gathering Saturday night featured the usual amazing potluck, beer provided by our sponsor Ninkasi, and socializing around the giant bonfire. Davey’s birthday was celebrated, the Barbie Bike was raffled off … and folks hung out until the wee hours of the next morning. You can read more about the weekend and see more photos on the Ride Forum. And be sure to put the 20th anniversary of Fall Barbie Camp (October 24-26 2014) on your calendars!
